KAT’s biggest strength is our group of diverse, talented, and experienced instructors. All instructors undergo background checks as well as regular training. Master Bill Pottle is the owner of the school and current head master. The brief bios of the Aurora school instructors are listed below. For the instructors at other locations, see the KAT Network Page.
Many people make the mistake of assuming that just because someone is good at martial arts, they will also be good at teaching. KAT offers a rigorous instructor training program that includes CPR/First Aid, Anatomy and Physiology, injury prevention, public speaking, learning styles, working with ADHD and learning disabilities, motivational skills, and more. The course includes theoretical work, practical experience, correcting the “Misadventures of Master Malo,” and a 3 hour written test. In addition, there are minimum age and belt requirements for all certified instructors. People interested in becoming instructors should click here.
Assistant Instructors are 11-15 year olds who assist part of class under the supervision of regular instructors. Click the link in the header above to go directly to moodle.
Our instructor training is based on the book written by Master Bill and Master Katie. Click on the title to see the book on Amazon.com
We also created the site http://www.wikidrills.com to collect thousands of different drills in one place for our instructors.
